Summary The Same Day Surgery nurse is responsible for assessing the patient's physical, psychologic, and social states; preparing the patient for surgery and other procedures; and implementing nursing interventions. Provide post-operative care of the patient during Phase II recovery with focus on preparing patients for hospital discharge, including education regarding the surgeon's postoperative instructions and any prescribed discharge medications. Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or during patient procedures and care.
