Job Description:
This is the Business Manager position with responsibility to support NPI financial analysis (as well as other investment analyses) and product cost analysis & reporting within the Excavation Division (EXD). Considering the concentration of EXD business partners (NPI product group teams, engineering system and vehicle teams, purchasing, etc.) based in Japan, this position requires co-location and will also be located in Akashi, Japan with up to 10% travel.
Job Summary:
The NPI & Product Cost Business Manager works across highly diverse and global teams to provide strategic counsel and deliver analysis and insights, partnering with the business to drive profitable growth. This position is considered a critical business partnering role and serves as a trusted adviser to all key stakeholders for investment analysis and product cost analysis within EXD, including the Vice Presidents of Product Management, Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Engineering, and Senior Director of Procurement.
The role reports directly to the Director of Accounting with business support responsibility for Excavation’s product group, purchasing, and engineering teams.

What You Will Do:
• Lead a team of finance professionals tasked with managing the analysis and reporting for EXD’s investment analysis projects and product cost.
• Provide strategic thought partnership and financial counsel to the business – supporting the Vice President of Product Management, Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Engineering, and Senior Director of Procurement.
• Collaborate across the Excavation Division and the broader Caterpillar enterprise to ensure an enterprise focus is maintained with regards to strategic financial decisions.
• Foster a strong business risk management governance process.
• Champion the finance transformation and continuous process improvement within the Excavation Division and the Construction Industries Segment.
• Effectively lead a diverse team, focused on proper talent development, succession planning, performance management and target setting.
What You Have (Desired Skills):
• Business Acumen: Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
• Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.

• Leadership: Knowledge of leadership practices and processes; ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives while having a long-term perspective of the future state of things and how to get there.
• Financial Modeling: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques of financial modeling; ability to explore and evaluate alternative financial scenarios and results.
• Stakeholder Management: Expert level ability to systematically identify stakeholders, analyze their needs and expectations, and engaging with them to achieve objectives while having a long-term perspective of the future state of things and how to get there.
Additional Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience desired.
• Previous product development & product cost experience desired.
• Operates as a true business partner. Ability to build strong relationships and partner across functions to help drive the business.
• Superior communication and influencing skills. An effective communicator with the ability to build relationships across an organization.
