JOB REQUIREMENTS: Overview The Nursing Unit Supervisor will have 24/7accountability for an assigned nursing area/unit. The Supervisor plans,organizes, and directs nursing practice for areas of responsibility anddoes this in accordance with the Mercyhealth\'s Mission, Vision, Valuesand Philosophy. The Supervisor will maintain clinical expertise in theirarea of responsibility and is expected to provide direct patient care inproportion to the needs of their areas. The Supervisor ensures the totalpatient experience is exceptional both in the Quality of Care and in thepatient perception of services as defined and measured by systemdashboard goals. Interviews, selects, orientate, trains, coaches andmentors and evaluates the performance of partners, providing correctiveaction when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.Responsibilities Has familiarity with components of a Magnet environmentand is supportive of all initiatives within the structure. Strongproblem solving abilities in complex situations. Ability to work withinthe budget and productivity targets to meet organizational objectives.Participates and supports the plans in place for selection of staff,evaluation of staff, orientation of new staff, continued education anddevelopment of staff, competency evaluation of staff, appropriatescheduling of staff based on patient acuity. Supports and partners withthe Manager/Clinical Leader and ensures the knowledge, skills, andbehaviors of staff are consistent and in alignment with the goals of theunit. Outstanding relationship building skills. Must possess strongphysician relationship skills. Patient focused with a strong commitmentto delivering the highest levels of quality, safety, and customerservice. Is accountable for achievement of patient satisfaction actionplans to achieve targets for their areas of responsibility. Supportsprocess improvement in operations, quality, and organizational changeidentified for their areas. Knowledge of accreditation and certificationrequirements and standards for their areas of responsibility. Able tocommunicate effectively and persuasively with individuals and groupsthrough compassion, creativity, and consistent visibility. Participatesin hospital and department committees. Demonstrated ability indeveloping and mentoring staff and colleagues. Leads by example,consistently demonstrating highly professional behavior.
