A Brief OverviewThe Cardiac Operating Room at CHOP has 2 dedicated operating rooms and a Hybrid room that is shared with the Cath Lab, with plans for expansion, where we perform dedicated OR procedures or combined cases.Patients in the CTOR range in age from neonate to adult.The nurses work 12 hour shifts with call one night per week and approximately 1 weekend per month. Call response time must be within 30 minutes.The CTOR nurses work closely with the anesthesia and perfusion teams in a supportive work environment.
The CTOR RN safely delivers care as a competent-to-proficient practitioner of nursing. The nurse, at this level, demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems -specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. In addition, the nurse demonstrates clinical leadership skills by contributing to standards of care and unit goals. The nurse serves as a role model for other staff and a preceptor for new employees. He/she participates in endeavors to increase knowledge.
What you will doCompetently scrubs on complex congenital heart cases.Makes daily staffing assignments.Participates in collection of specimens for clinical research projects. Identifies research projects that influence nursing practice in the Cardiac OR.Provides orientation for new staff.Develops systems that promote efficient and cost effective care and quality.Education QualificationsTechnical Diploma Nursing RequiredBachelor's Degree Nursing PreferredExperience QualificationsAt least one (1) year Previous RN Experience RequiredPediatric or area of specialty experience PreferredSkills and AbilitiesStrong scrubbing and circulating skills.
