  Job Summary: Key Job Responsibilities

  A Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a competent clinician who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner. A CNII Independently prioritizes & delivers dependable and effective patient care in a variety of patient situations using nursing process utilizing appropriate decision-making skills. A CNII exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. The Clinical Nurse II begins to develop their mentorship skillsets under the leadership of experienced and expert clinicians on their unit. Drives the mentee-mentor relationship to identify gaps in skills, practice and knowledge to achieve desired goals.

  A CNII establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice. The scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are

  to meet the Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, The Joint Commission and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements.

  Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  •Provides and accurately documents direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner.

  •Provides care and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures.

  •Provides direct and indirect care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.

  •Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access.

  •Observes signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition.

  •Demonstrates refined assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics.

  •Plans and implements individualized patient care based on observations. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when indicated.

  •Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Identifies patient’s readiness for learning and ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent.

  •Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs.

  •Participates in evidence-based improvement initiatives and/or councils/committees that improve nursing outcomes and the work environment in their unit/department.

  •Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes toprovide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patient.

  Education

  Assoc. Degree/College Diploma - Required

  Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (state accredited program) – Preferred

  Work Experience

  1 year - For external hires, acute care experience in their specialty for new hires.

  Promotion to Clinical Nurse II is automatic after completion of one (1) year of

  clinical experience and a satisfactory performance appraisal at a Clinical Nurse

  I level.

  Licenses and Certifications

  RN State License California State RN License Upon Hire

  Basic Life Support (BLS) BCLS Certification Upon Hire

  Other Competencies, as required by your specialty unit (ex. ACLS, PALS, fetal heart monitoring) - 1 Year

  Any ANCC Specialty Certification strongly recommended after 2 years in specialty
