About Referral Coordinator-Patterson Primary CAre

  Job Description:

  The Referral Specialist is responsible to execute patient referrals as indicated by physicians, seek authorization as required by individual insurances and notify patients.

  Scope

  1.Obtains referral request from physician.

  Ensures patients have been cleared for specialty service office visits. Resolves pre- certification, registration and case-related concerns prior to a patient's appointment. Verifies insurance coverage or lack thereof for patient. Obtains authorizations if needed from insurance coverage.

  Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient's financial obligations for services provided.

  Completes referral paperwork, including copies, and fax to medical office.

  Contacts patient regarding referral information and give name, location, telephone number of specialist.

  Returns referral to physician for signature of completion.

  Acts as a liaison between hospitals, physicians, health plans, vendors, and patients, or other referral sources.

  Covers PSR position as needed.

  Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.

  Performs other duties as assigned.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Required

  High school diploma or equivalent is required

  One (1) year front office or revenue cycle experience in a health care organization is required

  Preferred

  Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required

  Demonstrate understanding of health insurance and medical costs.

  Excellent customer service skills, in person and via telephone.

  Strong communication skills.

  Excellent organizational skills.

  Proficient computer skills.

  A team player who handles multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.

  Contributes to a positive work environment that is supportive of PSR associates, other colleagues, and patients needs.

  Physical Requirements:

  Physical RequirementsOngoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

  $16.24 - $23.69
