About Referral Coordinator-Patterson Primary CAre

  Job Description:The Referral Specialist is responsible to execute patientreferrals as indicated by physicians, seek authorization as required byindividual insurances and notify patients.

  Scope

  1.Obtains referral request from physician.2. Ensures patients have been cleared for specialty service office visits.Resolves pre- certification, registration and case-related concerns prior toa patient's appointment. Verifies insurance coverage or lack thereof forpatient. Obtains authorizations if needed from insurance coverage.3. Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financialcounselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient'sfinancial obligations for services provided.4. Completes referral paperwork, including copies, and fax to medical office.5. Contacts patient regarding referral information and give name,location, telephone number of specialist.6. Returns referral to physician for signature of completion.7. Acts as a liaison between hospitals, physicians, health plans,vendors, and patients, or other referral sources.8. Covers PSR position as needed.9. Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides byservice behavior standards.10. Performs other duties as assigned.

  Minimum Qualifications

  RequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent is required

  One (1) year front office or revenue cycle experience in a health careorganization is required

Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduledbusiness hours or scheduled shifts is required2. Demonstrate understanding of health insurance and medical costs.3. Excellent customer service skills, in person and via telephone.4. Strong communication skills.5. Excellent organizational skills.6. Proficient computer skills.7. A team player who handles multiple projects simultaneously in a fast pacedenvironment.8. Contributes to a positive work environment that is supportive of PSRassociates, other colleagues, and patients needs.

  Physical Requirements:Physical RequirementsOngoing need for employee to seeand read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment andsupplies, and be able to assess customer needs.Frequent interactions withcustomers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spokeninformation, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.Manualdexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipmentwith precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, andcable set-up and use.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement totransport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees andbend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
