  Your role

Radio-Canada North Coast is hiring a radio producer assigned primarily to the afternoon show and reporting.

Your role will be to direct the radio afternoon show, develop and produce program ideas and content, work with on-air talent, chase stories, promote content online and plan remotes as needed. Work must comply with CBC/Radio-Canada’s programming policies and Journalistic Standards and Practices, and you are responsible for ensuring this occurs. There is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity. There is also a regular and ongoing requirement to co-ordinate and vet the work of others. You collaborate with other producers and the production unit, including the news team, in producing the content and determining the focus of daily shows and specials.

  Key tasks:

  Deliver the program mandate.

  Keep up with news events.

Take the live program to air.

  Guide the host.

Coordinate the work of researchers and reporters/researchers.

  Put together the cue sheet.

Follow up as needed to ensure that all production elements are in place (guests, contributors, studio bookings, technical requirements, etc.).

Identify compelling items to clip for appropriate programs and platforms based on newsworthiness.

Creatively suggest and gather content elements to enhance the audience’s understanding of a segment.

Write clear, compelling scripts to accompany episodes or programs.

Pitch and prepare special themed series and other special programming for major events.

  Create podcast or program concepts.

Work collaboratively with other producers on the team as well as the newsroom lineup and assignment editors.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

You have a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from university or community college, plus five (5) years of practical and relevant experience in journalism or audio content production.

You demonstrate a clear understanding of news, politics and current events in general.

You must be a seasoned content producer with a wide range of interests.

You are proficient with audio editing and presentation techniques.

You are able to work in several different systems simultaneously, including audio and video editing and online video publishing tools. Training will be supplied, but familiarity with Dalet, Media Central, Audition, Avid and MPX/The Platform is an asset.

You have strong social media and digital skills.

You work well in a team.

You are able and confident to make good decisions rapidly and frequently, often under deadline; you can also handle stress and work well under pressure.

You are able to keep track of a number of simultaneous activities, to plan and prioritize and to analyze complex journalistic and operational issues.

You have leadership skills to inspire and direct a creative, experienced and self-motivated staff in a consultative and “team approach” style.

You understand CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.

You have excellent command of French (working language).

Selected candidates will be tested as follows:

  Interview.

  Theory test: Position-related knowledge.

Please include a cover letter describing your motivation to apply for a reporter position on the North Shore and what your professional and personal experience could bring to our newsroom.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
