Job Description:
On an assigned shift, and acting under prescribed rules and approved practices, to measure and keep records of radiation levels, to service and calibrate radiation protection instruments and equipment, and to perform related work as assigned.
Typical examples of duties are:
To make radiological surveys of any area onsite and to notify the foreman of unusual conditions.
Complete Radiation Protection Technician portion of Radiation Work Permit.
To evaluate radiological survey results and post the appropriate signs, labels, or protective barriers.
To evaluate radiological survey results and establish means for workers to limit their dose equivalents, including the approved use of protective clothing and respiratory protection equipment.
To perform operability checks of radiation detection instruments, such as ion chambers, Geiger Mueller instruments and neutron survey meters.
To recommend appropriate immediate actions in the event of a radiological problem and to perform the necessary activities until the arrival of radiation protection supervision.
To administer first aid.
To provide Radiation Protection support to the fire brigade.
To attend classroom lectures on radiological protection and related topics.
To attend laboratory sessions and in-plant training sessions on radiological protection, instrumentation, and related topics.
To perform other related duties, as assigned.
Pay rate: $44.26

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
High School Diploma or educational equivalent, including chemistry and mathematics courses
Ability to pass pre-employment testing (TECH)
Ability to work different shifts
Ability to receive unescorted Nuclear access
Excellent communication, teamwork and organizational skills
and one of the following:
Associates degree or equivalent in Radiation Protection, Health Physics or related fieldOR
High School Diploma and 2 year professional work experience in Radiation Protection, Health Physics or equivalentOR
6 years Navy Nuclear experience, including Engineering Lab Technician (ELT) qualificationsOR
