Job Title: Publishing Review Specialist
The Publishing Review Specialist contributes to the on-schedule delivery of content quality assurance services for assigned print and/or digital projects, working with supervision in a role in which editing skills and such core competencies as Leadership and Problem Solving are still being developed. The person in this role reviews and edits K–12 learning materials so that the content is grammatically correct, clear, consistent, accurate, pedagogically aligned, and complete; adheres to required styles, publishing and production standards, and specifications; follows best practices; and takes necessary actions to ensure product quality. This role helps guide assigned projects to completion on time and on budget, helps coordinate external resources as needed, monitors status and schedule, and troubleshoots issues while working collaboratively with other HMH cross-functional groups to satisfy internal and external customer requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Content Quality Assurance
With guidance,
understands and applies best practices for content quality assurance reviews to ensure that all project deliverables meet or exceed established standards and specifications for content language, consistency, style, accuracy, and publishing and production quality.
develops an understanding of Agile methodology in the development of educational learning solutions, works successfully on scrum teams and in sprint workflows, and is expected to demonstrate a developing level of Agile fluency/experience by end of first year.
follows content quality assurance plans and procedures based on alignment with Agile methodology, develops an understanding of how to get buy-in from key stakeholders, helps monitor and input quality KPI information, and, with guidance, takes necessary actions to improve product quality.
Project and Resource Management
Under supervision, efficiently and effectively delivers assigned projects while meeting expected content quality assurance standards within required time frames and budgets.
Adheres to project delivery expectations and established processes, monitoring and communicating status, troubleshooting issues, taking appropriate actions based on sound decision-making, and appropriately escalating risks.
Contributes to internal resource planning and helps coordinate external and internal resources (including contractors and vendor partners as well as contingent workers) as needed.
Collaboration and Customer Focus
Builds productive relationships with peers, colleagues, management, various HMH groups, and external customers through effective use of written and oral communication.
Follows customer-focused practices, proactively anticipating customer issues to effectively and efficiently solve problems and responds promptly and accurately to customers’ requests.
Understands DEI; applies it with support.
Other
Stays up to date with industry standards, processes, and technologies.
Performs all tasks required to support department and company goals.
Key Stakeholders/Collaborators
Internal: Works with Learning Experience Design, Product Experience Design, Delivery Development and Planning, Strategic Sourcing, Services, Office of Equity & Inclusion, Marketing, Finance, Legal, Global Supply Chain, Digital Production, and other HMH groups to develop product.
External: Provides oversight for contractors and vendor Partners working on project assignments involving content quality assurance services. Follows up and answers all vendor questions and concerns.
What You'll Need:
BS or BA in a related discipline.
At least 1 year of related industry or equivalent experience.
Technical Skills
Must be skilled as a copyeditor with knowledge of editorial and English-language conventions and a strong grasp of grammar.
Must have a grasp of the HMH Managing Complexity competency: looking at complex issues from multiple angles and gaining a sound understanding of the topic; recognizing the main consequences and implications of different options; exploring issues and uncovering the underlying issues and root causes; and determining new information needed to solve problems and incorporating these concepts into the analysis.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Verbal and written communication must be professional, comprehensive, clear, direct, and accurate.
Must be able to respond positively and contribute to evolving processes and changing environment. Must utilize strong problem-solving skills to offer solutions.

Physical Requirements:
Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
The person in this position needs to move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
Salary: $45K-$55K
