This role supports the Director of Communications with the Crisis Communications Strategy. This individual will be responsible for crisis communication, crafting compelling narratives, managing media relations, and fostering positive relationships with key influencers. The ideal candidate will bring a dynamic and adaptable skill set while demonstrating a commitment to antiracism. A background rooted in the political world, nonprofit sector, or journalism is ideal.Responsibilities for Crisis Communications competency includes but is not limited to:Regularly take shifts after-hours and on weekends as part of the Crisis Communications Response Team. (Shifts would be between the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and all team members are welcome to decline if that time does not work for them).Responsible for gathering information and working with Plymouth leaders to write all-staff communications in the case of a crisis situation-from more minor events to the most urgent/critical of safety events.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with Plymouth Housing's mission and values.Craft persuasive and engaging written content for press releases, op-eds, speeches, and other communication materials.Manage media relations and act as a spokesperson for the organization, building and maintaining positive relationships with journalists and media outlets.Drive the creation of human-interest stories with a political edge, highlighting the impact of Plymouth Housing's work.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistency and effectiveness of messaging across various platforms.Work closely with the development team to support fundraising efforts through strategic communication initiatives.Act as a key communicator in times of organizational growth, assisting in the opening of new buildings and ensuring appropriate quotes from relevant parties.ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Demonstrate the ability to pivot and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.Work independently and take ownership of projects from conception to completion.Have exceptional writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.Thrive in a rapidly changing environment and navigate complex issues.Understand political dynamics and infuse a political edge into human interest stories.Able to communicate effectively with a diverse audience, including policymakers and community leaders.Proven experience in public relations, communications, or journalism, preferably in a political or nonprofit setting.Collaborate effectively with senior leadership and other departments.Have a deep understanding of messaging principles and the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner.Demonstrate empathy and support for individuals experiencing homelessness.Demonstrate an understanding of structural racism/oppression-in addition to empathy and support for individuals experiencing homelessness and substance-use disorders.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.Previous experience working in a nonprofit organization focused on housing or homelessness.Familiarity with Housing First and Harm Reduction principles.Experience in crisis communications and issues management.For a full list of our benefits, please go toAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin.
