Description of Job
About this work Unit:
The Psychologist Candidate position works in the 24-hour State psychiatric hospital with individuals voluntarily and involuntarily committed to treatment. Patients receiving treatment at CMHIFL have severe and persistent mental illness and may have traumatic brain injury, trauma disorders, and other complex dynamics. Each treatment team is multidisciplinary, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, addiction specialists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, creative arts therapists, nurses, physicians, and mental health clinicians. In addition, the hospital offers dietary, peer, and chaplain services.
About this Position:
As a Psychologist Candidate, practicing under a fully licensed psychologist, the position is responsible for therapy, assessment, behavioral interventions, and civil commitments with testimony. Therapeutic interventions may include individual therapy, group therapy, and/or family therapy. Group therapy is offered to all patients and tailored to the clinician's specialized skill set and the current patient population's needs. The Candidate is directly responsible for developing materials for therapeutic interventions, including individual and group therapy, as well as behavior plans. Such materials are expected to be tailored to the patient's specific needs to offer an individualized approach. Individualized behavior plans are utilized for those with specific needs extending beyond individual therapy, group therapy, and/or milieu interventions. The Candidate develops such plans, trains the staff, monitors the plan, and adjusts as needed. Lastly, this position is responsible for directly documenting all patient care duties in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
The Psychologist Candidate conducts comprehensive psychological testing and consults with all treatment teams on appropriate referrals and testing results. In addition, this position is responsible for providing psychological expertise to the treatment teams, all hospital departments, and external stakeholders. This position documents regularly in the electronic health record and contributes to the training of doctoral externs and predoctoral interns through various psychological seminars, supervision, co-facilitation, and mentoring.
