  With over 700 employees, Behavioral Health Services (BHS) at DenverHealth is a large and rapidly expanding department that provides psychiatriccare for patients in community, emergency, inpatient, justice,medical, mobile, and outpatient settings.   This position provides crisis psychiatric evaluation and care withinPsychiatric Emergency Services (PES). The PES is Colorado's only 24/7team of board-certified psychiatrists and consists of 10 beds staffed by sixfull-time psychiatrists and a PA. The service also includes a mobile crisisteam and provides about 4,000 encounters annually. The service providescritical community needs and is poised for significant growth with upcomingchanges in the way behavioral health is regulated and funded in the state.This position typically involves working 3 to 4 shifts per week and,therefore, also offers excellent opportunities for work-life balance.

  Essential Functions:

  Provide evidence-based, cost-effective clinical services includingassessment, behavioral interventions, consultation, emergencymedications, M-1 holds and other involuntary treatments such asseclusion/restraints, somatic treatments, triage and other clinicalservices as needed. (40%)Obtains relevant medical histories, makes appropriate diagnoses,implements and directs effective psychiatric treatments including duringhigh-risk and/or life-threatening conditions including during pregnancy andperi-partum periods, malignant catatonia, neuroleptic malignantsyndrome, and serotonin syndrome. (20%)May provide clinical supervision for trainees and advanced practice providersas assigned. (10%)Provide services that are appropriate to the age and developmental level ofthe patient. (5%)Generate accurate and appropriate documentation of services in the medicalrecord and write reports in a timely fashion. (15%)Participate and/or support academic efforts in research and in professionalwriting. (10%)

  Education:

  Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medical school. Required

  Work Experience:

  Licenses:

  MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required andBLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles,procedures and techniques.Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents and behavioral interventions usedin patient treatment.Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities whileproviding quality medical care.A le to receive detailed information through oral communications; express orexchange ideas by verbal communications.Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational,socioeconomic and ethnic/racial backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.Performs in a tactful and professional manner under stressful and emotionallycharged circumstances.A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.Relies on experience and judgment to plan and...
