Job Description Summary:We are excited to announce a new full-time ProjectScientist I position in NCAR's Research Applications Lab.The new hire will conduct independent and collaborative research on projectsrelated to future climate change and its uncertainty over North America. Theywill have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing climate research projectsfocused on topics such as drought, wildfire, extreme precipitation, andheat as well as to develop their topical research interests.
This role will help create a decision-relevant climate dataset by performinghigh-resolution dynamical climate simulations over North America. This willinclude configuring and running regional and variable resolution climatemodels and supporting the data post-processing and analysis efforts. They willalso contribute to the development of an actionable climate science program bycontributing to new grants and proposals and developing collaborations withexternal partners. Conduct original research on actionable use-inspired climate science topics,including:
Contributing to existing ongoing research, including but not limited towinter weather, wildfire, drought, extremes, climate changeuncertainty, and model evaluation (conventional and machine learning-based).
Collaborating with a team of scientists to develop independent researchquestions relevant to regional climate change and its impacts in NorthAmerica.
Produce information that can be used by other scientists and stakeholders insupport of climate change resilience and adaptation planning.
Perform high-resolution dynamical climate simulations over North America.
Contribute to data post-processing and analysis.
Collaborate with social scientists on the development of actionable dataproducts from output.
Collaborate with climate, social, and data scientists in RAL toconceptualize, strategize, and co-develop an Actionable Climate Scienceprogram
Contribute to the development of new proposals, serving as Co-PI whenappropriate.
Opportunity to take a lead role in portions of the program.
Contribute to the development of next-generation regional climate modelingcapabilities, including Earth System emulators
Build connections and collaborations with scientists, stakeholders,programs, and institutions, both within & outside of NCAR/UCAR.
