Job Description Summary:We are excited to announce an opening for a newProject Scientist I position to add to our aerosol model team at ACOM /NCAR. In recent years we have developed capabilities in our atmosphericchemistry model (CESM CAMchem and WACCM) to integrate aerosol models ofdifferent complexity, including both a modal and sectional aerosol model.This integration allows us to do new and exciting science applications andallows further model improvements.

　　We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist who is interested in advancingthe existing modeling capabilities while expanding our aerosol model andperforming independent research on the topic, including writing papers andpresenting results at conferences.The initial focus is the integration of new solid materials into the modelframework, including coupling to radiation, chemistry, and cloudprocesses, and the evaluation of the effects of existing and new materialsthat have been proposed for stratospheric aerosol injections to potentiallycounter the effects of climate change.

　　The position would also integrate our capabilities in the model to run onhigher regionally refined model resolutions to explore the improvedperformance of simulating volcanic eruptions and PyroCb events. 　　What You Will DoHere is a summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for inthis role.

　　Key Responsibilities:

　　The employee will work in close collaboration with our aerosol modeling teamto perform model development, testing, and evaluations of the modelresults. The work includes code changes of the aerosol model and implementingchemistry and other modifications and couplings into the atmospheric modelconfigurations with comprehensive chemistry based on existing and newexperimental data. The employee will set up and perform model sensitivitystudies and longer experiments and identify suited case studies for evaluatingthe results.

　　The employee will perform independent research based on the advanced modelcapabilities and write scientific papers, with a focus on stratosphericaerosol injections using alternative material. The employee will participatein weekly team meetings focusing on model development, participate in otherrelated meetings in ACOM, and will be integrated into other lab activitiesof interest. Those include multi-scale model meetings and related aerosol andchemistry development meetings.
