  About the Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator-based ScienceS and Education

  The Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator-based ScienceS and Education (CLASSE) studies particle beams and accelerators, photon science, particle physics and the early universe, and serves students, the public and scientists from Cornell and around the globe. The research missions of this laboratory are in many respects unique in the world.

  The Opportunity

  Primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  Design, develop, and maintain relational databases and software applications for business/accounting workflows, asset management, and monitoring of central computing resources within CLASSE.Work with stakeholders and users to identify software requirements, write the software, support the software with timely troubleshooting and bug fixes, and keep track of software development process.Research, recommend, and implement possible solutions and new technologies.Act as a member of the CLASSE-IT group with shared responsibility for CLASSE user support.

  What We Need

  Required Qualifications:

  Bachelor's degree in computer science, physical sciences, or engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.2 year's programming experience and advanced skills in Java, C++, or Python with a strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, and testing. Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to translate between technical and non-technical CLASSE staff and the CLASSE-IT team.Understand how to work within a team environment.A desire to own software development projects from conception, planning, coding, and long-term support.Capable of adapting to the changing needs of a research environment.Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Experience with web application frameworks such as Java EE, Jakarta EE, or Spring Boot.Experience developing front-end UIs for web applications using templating systems such as JSF, JSP, or Thymeleaf.Experience with Javascript frameworks like Angular, React, or Vue.Experience with application servers such as Payara, Glassfish, or Tomcat.Experience with containers such as Docker.Experience with relational database management systems such as MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL.

  This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role remotely 2.5 days per week and on-campus 2.5 days per week.
