　　The Department of HIM has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Professional Coder to work remotely in Miami, Fl. The Professional Coder reviews medical records to validate codes assigned by physicians and identifies issues and resolves discrepancies to ensure accurately and efficient coding records.

　　Verifies patient information and works with caregivers to obtain clarifications of patient diagnosis.

　　Identifies misplaced or potentially litigious documentation and reports findings to management.

　　Reviews records for accuracy of scanned documents and reports any poorly scanned documents to management.

　　Collaborates with other departments to ensure that record accurately reflects services provided and to identify documentation trends.

　　Assigns and sequences diagnostic and procedural codes to encounters.

　　Reports unusual circumstances, possible risk factors, report problems, errors, and discrepancies to management.

　　Surveys caregivers on documentation issues and coding idiosyncrasies.

　　Maintains current knowledge of coding rules and regulations.

　　Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

　　MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

　　High School diploma or equivalent

　　Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

　　Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder or

　　Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

　　General knowledge of office procedures and operations.

　　Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, reports and correspondence

　　Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

　　Skill in completing assignments accurately

　　Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
