We are looking for a talented Product Software Engineer to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Corporate Business in Columbus, IN and/or your remote home office.
This product focused, early career position creates and manages the software that controls the operation of many Cummins’ products in a variety of end use applications.
As a product Software Engineer, you will:
Specify, Design, Implement, Test and/or Release software that controls the operation of Cummins’ products,
Investigate product software problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, own problem resolution, and document results,
Develop your industry experience in core knowledge areas such as embedded software development, controls software development, microcontroller architecture.
Develop your skills by becoming familiar with AUTOSAR Automotive Open System Architecture, Automotive electronics communications protocols (IE CAN, CAN-FD & Ethernet).
Utilize product software development processes to take system level requirements and break them down into software requirements.
Use Industry and Cummins specific tools and software; examples include model-based development tools, Linux based systems or traditional C code compilers and debuggers running on state-of-the-art embedded microcontrollers.
Collaborate with global product and software development teams to deliver verified software features, components, and builds to the product teams.
You will make an impact by:
Applying your knowledge to drive improvements to the embedded software development processes such as, model-based development, lower-level software design and implementation, compiling/building, and testing.
Making decisions in the areas of software requirements, architecture, design, implementation, and test that impact the quality and performance of software subsystems and feature classes.
Actively engaging in product problem solving and product failure mode avoidance,
Consider system requirements and demonstrate a systems-thinking approach to work.
Demonstrate strong decision-making skills and a strong customer focus.
Delivering results, even under tough circumstances.
Learning and applying new emerging technologies
Collaborating and communicating effectively (both verbal and written) with key stakeholders and colleagues
Documenting and presenting your learnings and plans in the form of PowerPoint presentations to customers and management as well as writing technical reports.
To be successful in this role you will need:
A College, University or equivalent Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field.
A postgraduate (Masters or PhD) degree may be required for select Product Software Engineering roles.
Good communication skills along with strengths in logic and planning
Experience using Microsoft Office tools or equivalents, especially Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Qualifications
Degree Programs Considered: Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD
Major Programs Typically Considered: All Engineering Majors
Cummins Full Time Requirements:
College, university or equivalent technical experience required
Minimum 2.5 GPA or above required
Must be able to complete 40 hours per week
0-2 years in a position/internship relating to your field of study preferred
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
