Product Safety Specialist, Full-Time, Forks Township, PAGENERAL SUMMARY:Provides regulatory and technical support for the Global Product Safety Program in R&D to ensure all Crayola products meet the company's standards for consumer safety. Provides technical support for the Crayola art material toxicological assessments and safe product designs. For microbiological discipline- Supervises the microbiology laboratories to ensure preservative systems comply with Crayola standards and regulations.PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides regulatory and technical support to ensure Crayola products meet global safety regulations and standards including toxicology, mechanical, human factors, and microbiological safety. These include FHSA, CPSIA, EU Directives, CCPSA, FDA, and global consumer product standards.Partners with cross functional teams and provides regulatory and technical guidance on safe product design for all new product offerings.Oversees Crayola art material toxicological assessments through the Art & Creative Materials Institute's Certification Program. Provides toxicological support for raw material replacement, process improvement, and cost savings programs.Determines testing protocols, executes testing, draws conclusions, and communicates results.Approves and advises changes to safety language, labeling, and instructions for product package copy to assure adherence to relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines.Provides interdepartmental, customer, and consumer technical support and documentation for Crayola products.For Microbiological discipline:Conducts microbiological testing experiments to ensure the integrity of all Crayola products. Approves new preservative systems for all bio-critical product formulas.Audits the plant production areas, provides plant hygiene training, and develops new production equipment sanitization procedures.Manage the Micro lab and assures compliance with EH&S and safety regulations.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in a technical or science discipline preferred with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical field or an Associates degree in a science discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience.Knowledge of consumer product safety regulations and industry standards.Experience or knowledge in performing microbiological testing procedures.Ability to travel a maximum of 10%.PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
