Nordson MEDICAL designs, engineers and manufactures complex devices andcomponents with applications in wound healing, surgical and minimallyinvasive, fluid management, pulmonology and interventional and structuralheart. Position Summary
Design and develop innovative products and custom components for thehealthcare industry in line with Nordson Medical strategic goals and productroadmap. Manage projects as per established 'Custom Fitting ProductDevelopment Process' in support of the 'Nordson MEDICAL Design Center'including coordination of the cross-functional team member activities to meetspecified customer and corporate design, manufacturing, and qualityrequirements. Manage the activities and timelines of new product projectswithin the guidelines of company policies and product development procedures.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Independent evaluation, selection and application of standard engineeringtechniques, procedures, and criteria, using sound judgment and ingenuityin making minor adaptations and modifications.Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives, points ofemphasis, reference and information sources and possible solutions. Solvescomplex problems jointly with Product Manager and has the work reviewed forapplication of sound engineering judgment.Design and develop innovative products from concept to production thatprovides sustained competitive advantage to Nordson MEDICAL.Coordinate appropriate communications with Nordson MEDICAL customers tofacilitate transfer of customer requirements and project acceptance.Refine technical data received from marketing & sales, customers, andmanufacturing team members, conducts appropriate evaluation, and createsdetailed project scope, schedule, product specifications and risk analysisas per Nordson MEDICAL, New Product Development processes. Provides accurateand timely project status updates to appropriate Nordson MEDICAL personnel.Direct efforts of Nordson MEDICAL, cross-functional team which isresponsible for all aspects of launching new projects from concept to volumeproduction. Coordinates regular status meetings with Nordson MEDICAL personnelas needed or requested.Works on Technology development projects and at a minimum report on those ona monthly basis.Actively manages projects, works with the cross-functional team membersand with effective communication smoothly accomplishes all project activities.Maintain project schedules current.Develop detailed engineering drawings, fixtures and gages for new productsusing accepted Nordson MEDICAL, tools.Utilize input from all departments from within Nordson MEDICAL in thecreation and implementation of Design FMEA, Design for Manufacture andAssembly (DFMA). Assist the manufacturing engineer in the creation ofProcess FMEA.Create appropriate project plan/schedule and documentation to adequatelycreate a Design History Record (DHR) of all projects within the guidelinesof Nordson MEDICAL procedures and practices. Oversees the development andmaintenance of appropriate work instructions and ISO procedures.Develop test protocols for internal or external use and perform designevaluati n and validation tests resulting in products that meet customer,design and manufacturing requirements.Creates and updates documents, Purchase Orders, Shop Orders, ControlPlans and Engineering Parts in the Enterprise Resource Planning System Manageoutside contract resources to ensure on-time delivery of quality productsand/or services.Responsible for meeting scope, schedule and cost requirements of projectsassigned.Provides accurate and timely project status updates to appropriate companyteam members.Available on occasions to work on weekends, holidays, and off-hours tosupport company requirements.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to effectively present information to customers and top management.Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers,regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and understand theapplication of geometric tolerances. Must be able to use inspection devices(microscopes, calipers, gage pins, optical comparator).Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability andstatistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry andtrigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages,ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Operates Rapid Prototyping, testing, and machine shop equipment asneeded to support Engineering, New Product Development and Quality Assuranceactivities.One to two years of experience in use of one or more of these software tools(Solid Works, PDMWorks, Solid Edge, Pro-E) is required.Proficient in use of typical desktop hardware and software (Outlook,Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Basic use of MS Project.Experience in use of one or more of these software tools (Solid Works,PDMWorks, Solid Edge, MS Project, Project Scheduler, and FEA Softwaresuch as COSMOS, Pro-E, and AutoCAD etc.) is required.Proficient in use of typical desktop hardware and software
