Microsoft Defender Security Research team is a global team of security researchers, advanced threat hunters, and agile malware responders at the forefront of protecting the Microsoft ecosystem from emerging security threats. Responsibilities
Conduct Advanced Security Research: You will lead groundbreaking research into critical security areas, collaborate across disciplines, and align innovative solutions with our strategic goals.
Master Analytical Problem-Solving: We expect you to analyze complex security challenges, influence organizational best practices, and lead in threat mitigation and design improvement.
Drive Solution Generation and Strategic Mitigation: Your role involves identifying and resolving significant security issues, developing strategic mitigations, and architecting solutions in collaboration with various teams.
Orchestrate and Collaborate Effectively: You should have experience in fostering cross-group coordination, leading large-scale security analyses, and managing incident responses with a focus on collaboration and consensus-building.
Demonstrate Industry Leadership: We look for candidates who actively contribute to industry advancements, share expertise, mentor others, and integrate emerging technologies and methods into security practices.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
7+ years experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cybersecurity, and/or anomaly detection
OR Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field.
Development skills with C, C++, C# and scripting languages (Python/Powershell)
Other Requirements:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Additional or Preferred Qualifications
8+ years experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cybersecurity, and/or anomaly detection
OR Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field.
Reverse Engineering skills: familiar with debuggers, disassemblers, network protocols, file formats, sandboxes, hardware/firmware internals, software communication mechanisms
Knowledge of Windows operating system internals and modern security problems
Cross group and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate the business need for security or detection improvements.
Security Research IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
