  Job Description:

  With over $1B of annual spend, AT&T is one of the largest energy consumers in the United States. We are committed to driving efficiency and reducing our energy consumption and spending in the years ahead and are looking for a highly skilled, experienced, and intellectually curious Finance professional to lead in this area. This role is the Finance lead for planning, forecasting, reporting, and analysis of our energy spend in close coordination with other Finance teams and our Operations client. This role will also work with partners to analyze energy-related opportunities like renewable energy investments and consumption reduction technologies on an ad hoc basis. The person in this role is expected to come with deep subject area knowledge of the drivers of electricity pricing in the market, the dynamics different types of suppliers, managing a large corporate energy budget, and be able to explain trends to senior leadership. Finally, the ability to work with large datasets and continually improve processes is paramount.

  Major responsibilities:

  Budgeting & Forecasting

  Maintain and improve the current budgeting and forecasting processes and models, including working with operational partners to source the key operational assumptions that allow a bottoms-up consumption forecast.

  Develop understanding of and facility with key Finance systems used in the budgeting, forecasting, and results process.

  Maintain robust forecasts of in-year and next year spending based on rate and consumption trends and outside consultant market forecasts. Maintain view-over-view explains.

  Identify gaps to Plan and work with clients to close.

  Monthly Results

  Own the monthly financial close process for energy, including consumption and rate results, and variance explains.

  Manage monthly accruals process to capture missing invoices and smooth the timing of consumption with the goal of getting to the most accurate estimate of the net-rate we pay for electricity each month. Create accurate month-end journal entries.

  Provide results readouts to operational partners.

  Other

  Develop deep knowledge of AT&T’s Large Scale Renewable Energy investments and green energy credits and support clients in consideration of new opportunities.

  Build a strong working relationship with external energy bill management partner and energy market strategy consultants.

  Support partners in evaluating a variety of investment and partnership opportunities in the energy optimization space.

  Support clients in discussions with energy strategy consultants about hedging strategies (i.e. forward purchases)

  Key Skills and Experience: 15+ years experience managing the energy spend for a large organization is required for external candidates. Deep understanding of energy markets and both regulated and deregulated electricity expenses is also required. Strong Excel modeling skills are required. Ability to source data from various systems and manipulate and analyze large data sets in Access, etc is required. Ability to communicate succinctly to senior management in monthly results and on ad hoc questions is critical.
