  Within the ten years' relevant work experience, at least five years’ experience in Enterprise Architecture, is required.

  The following are preferred:

  Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, system analysis, business, or related field

  EA experience in a higher education setting

  Experience including enterprise architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management, an infrastructure planning and operations

  Knowledge of the components of holistic enterprise architecture, business re-engineering principles and processes, and basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting

  Experience with methodology and tools such as TOGAF or FEAF, ArchiMate, LeanIX, Ardoq, Capsifi, Blue Dolphin, and the like.

  Supervisory experience

  Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments

  Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills

  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to present ideas in user-friendly, user-relevant language

  Additional Information:This role is offered as a hybrid position (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA-based campus on a weekly basis. Specific schedule will be determined by your manager.

Our Principal Enterprise Architect (EA) will help define our vision and roadmap for enterprise architecture, champion enterprise architecture concepts across our technical and stakeholder communities, create a working definition of and lead implementation of enterprise architecture for Harvard Business School (HBS) while collaborating with our data, application and technology architects and our business analysts.

  The role of the EA will help us develop models so business and IT leaders can make investment and design decisions that balance and prioritize current operational demands, disruptions, and opportunities with the longer-term strategic vision of the organization. Our EA will also establish technology guidance, road maps, principles, standards, and best practices, facilitating alignment of numerous architecture and technology efforts in support of HBS's mission to “educate leaders who make a difference in the world”.

  The EA reports to the Senior Managing Director, Enterprise Engineering & Architecture. The EA’s work will help drive the evolution of the practices of our 300+ person IT organization. The ideal candidate will be an energetic quick study with superior interpersonal and communication skills, and is expected to be a thought leader, change agent and hands-on practitioner with significant experience with EA methodologies, notations, and tools.

  Responsibilities:

  Create the vision, charter and provides overall direction, guidance, and definition of EA to support the school’s business strategy

  Function as thought leader, advocate, champion and lead practitioner of EA

  Define and lead programs to develop, maintain, and govern EA across the organization

  Establishes and leads the EA review board and ensures that solutions are compliant with target-state architecture models

  Align architecture strategy with business goals and develop and communicate architecture policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures

  Promote the EA process, outcomes, and results to the organization and senior leadership

  Lead and facilitate creation of governing principles to guide EA practices

  Manage exceptions to architectural standards at an enterprise level

  Approve modification of the enterprise architecture to accommodate project needs

  Advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, system impacts, and technology priorities based on EA-derived insights

  Work with business leaders to understand business requirements and help them understand how technology tradeoffs influence strategy

  Develop a communication plan for enterprise architecture

  Direct evaluation of EA-related emerging technology, industry, and market trends

  Guide EA tool and component selection within the enterprise

  Responsible for defining a skills profile and guiding the overall training and development of the team members working on EA

  Complete other responsibilities as assigned
