Position Summary
Provides strategic and business planning leadership and consultation to company's executive management and leadership councils that positions the company for long-term success. Design and implement enterprise-wide processes that ensure alignment and achievement of plans and financial objectives. Performs business environment scans to identify events and trends of strategic significance, to create broad understanding of technologies, peer companies, and industry dynamics, and to ensure business intelligence supports key decisions. Facilitates cross-functional and inter-industry efforts to design and implement emerging business opportunities and business development initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities
Leads and counsels company executives through the development of corporate and operating company strategies and strategic plans. Designs and facilitates the use of systematic tools and techniques (scenario planning/learning, Porters 5 Forces Model, Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis, business risk assessment) to identify priority issues and articulate and challenge strategic assumptions. Works closely with functional champions to monitor progress of strategic plans. Organizes strategies and plans for presentation to various audiences, including executives and the Board of Directors.
Leads the CEO, CFO and Utilities Group President through the development of corporate and business area priorities, key performance indicators and targets. Designs and implements planning guidelines for business area use to ensure alignment with corporate priorities. Provides analysis and recommendations to the CEO and the Utilities Group President in support of target setting and incentive compensation range negotiations. Designs and executes the corporate and business area performance monitoring process, including results presentations to the CEO and annual reports and presentations to the Board of Directors, consulting with the CEO, functional business areas presidents and planning consultants and the corporate secretary's office.
Performs business environment scans to identify events and trends of strategic significance and to create understanding of technologies, peer companies, and industry dynamics. Creates and publishes the Utility Industry Review monthly and other reports to apprise management and the Board of Directors. Researches and compiles results for confidential information requests, company profiles, and strategic analysis for executives. Researches, analyzes, and creates comparison studies, such as utility rankings and corporate efficiency metrics. Ensures business intelligence supports key decisions and negotiations.
Facilitates cross-functional and inter-industry efforts to design and implement emerging business opportunities and business development initiatives, such as Energy Policy Act and battery storage. Identifies, investigates, and solves business planning, strategic planning and reporting issues.
Facilitates various executive leadership council meetings. Works directly with executive leadership to identify issues and desired outcomes. Articulates objectives and develops agendas to ensure effective implementation and execution of business plans, operating plans, and strategic initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA preferred. Minimum 5 years utility or energy business experience with exposure to multiple business functions. Detailed knowledge of Xcel Energy business functions desirable. Emphasis on strategy and business planning and process design and implementation. Project management experience desirable. Some travel.
