Job Objective:Directs activities of Chamber of Commerce to promote business, community, industrial and job development, and civic improvements in the county by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates or members.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Guides the development of the Chamber's overall program of work. Is responsible for directing and implementing, with the aid of staff and volunteers, the program of work and policies adopted by the Board of Directors.Develops, coordinates, and oversees the management of all committees. Assists the Chairman of the Board in selecting qualified personnel for committee assignments. Directs recruitment and appointment to committees. Provides administrative and managerial support to specific committee projects. Plans and schedules meetings, supervises the preparation of notices, reports, and other materials, and provides staff and other resources as needed.Collects, compiles, interprets and distributes legislative, economic and marketing information to promote economic growth and stability in community, and advise business organizations and industry on problems affecting local economy. Studies governmental legislation, taxation, and other fiscal matters to determine effect on community interests, and makes recommendations based on organizational policy.Coordinates work with that of other community agencies to provide public services. Writes and gives speeches to government and business organizations to create greater understanding between community, government, and business organizations.Manages the Chamber's personnel, financial, fiscal, and other resources. Recruits, hires, manages, evaluates, and terminates staff as required to ensure effective and efficient operations and productivity. Prepares and submits annual budget on a timely basis to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for approval to support the strategic plan and programs of work. Reviews and approves all expenditures under the approved budget. Prepares or directs preparation of the monthly financial statements.Responsible for recruiting and retaining Chamber members. Assures collection of member dues on a timely basis, solicits new memberships and renewals, and provides recognition to members for support. Prepares or directs the preparation of correspondence regarding membership status, due dates and fees, and other information.Directs the maintenance of membership and prospect records, media files, financial records, and other documents on behalf of the Chamber.Prepares and presents Chamber communications to members, community leaders, and the general public including correspondence, Chamber publications, news releases, speeches, and other official statements of the Chamber.Oversees and manages the Chambers Power Lunch and Speakers Series. Secures speakers and sponsors. Markets and promotes events to the community through the media and other means. Insures prominence of this event in the eyes of members, the media, and the community at large. Revised 8/2021Coordinates or directs the coordination of other Chamber events such as Business after Hours gatherings, ribbon cuttings, grand openings, etc.Oversees the process for conducting the Chambers annual meeting and Banquet. Provides support and guidance to the banquet committee. Recruits sponsors and insures the financial goals of the banquet are achieved.Prepares or oversees the preparation of articles or fact sheets reflecting the views of the Chamber and the reporting of projects and activities. Serves as a contact between the Board and the media, and represents the Chamber at community meetings and events, as needed. Other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Committee or Board of Directors.
Supervisory Responsibilities:Directly supervises administrati e employees and a varying number of volunteers, interns and other occasional office personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and terminating employees when necessary.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Must be able to effectively operate telephones, computers, printers, copiers, facsimiles, and other standard office equipment. Must be able to travel overnight or longer to attend training or other business on behalf of the Chamber.Must demonstrate cooperative behaviors assisting members, volunteers, staff, and others as needed. Education and/or Experience:A Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university plus two years related economic or community development, or not-for-profit experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful completion of Chamber Institute curriculum is preferred. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:Valid state Driver's License is required.
