About Power Engineer, Integrated Rack Power Team Sustaining Engineering

  Description

  The AWS Rack Power team is driving rapid innovation in the power systems used by Amazon Web Services. The Rack Power team's designs are fundamentally changing the data center, providing operational and financial benefits that are critical to the success of the AWS business and its millions of customers. We design, build, and maintain the power equipment used by Amazon.com and AWS services.

  Our engineers solve challenging technology problems, and take big bets on new concepts, enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry.

  What you will do: As a member of the Rack Power Sustaining Engineering team you will support and sustain power conversion and power management for AWS servers, resolving product technical issues to maintain and improve the power solutions AC-DC Power Supplies, Inverters, and Battery technology deployed in our data center hardware.

  You will provide leadership in the application of new technologies to enable large scale server deployments in a continuous effort to deliver a world-class customer experience.

  You will be a power electronics subject matter expert in an engineering team responsible for product sustaining and support. You will help grow the capabilities in our power test lab and industry leading supply vendors, thru root cause failure analysis and investigation along with black box data analysis to determine appropriate corrective actions.

  This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with other thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance, quality and cost.   Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • 3+ years of electrical engineering experience specifically in power electronics

  • 3+ years of experience designing, testing, and debugging power electronics such as AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC power conversion, switching power supplies, driver circuits, and battery systems

  3+ years of Project Management of a cross functional team

  • HW Lab experience: setting up prototypes, developing tests and running tests

  • Experience developing tests and automating their execution with one or more programming/scripting languages.

  Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or similar

  • Deep understanding of different power electronics circuit topologies

  • Experience designing or testing products for safety, compliance, and regulatory standards

  • Experience in working with overseas CM/OEM/ODM vendors in product development

  • Experience with technologies such as: power optimization, board design, thermal, mechanical, BIOS, BMC, signal integrity, networking…

  • Product validation and issue root cause experience

  • Ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations; experience working in cross functional groups including mechanical engineering, thermal engineering, test, reliability, and failure analysis.

  • Experience with power, performance and cost optimization

  • Experience with data center power distribution to server racks and within server racks.

  • Experienced in gathering requirements and developing server specifications

  • Demonstrated ability to engage technology developers in the industry to track and apply emerging technologies to innovative server designs

  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role

  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role

  Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $93,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
