Studies will map neuronal microcircuits, or engrams, that encode drug memories, phenotype engram cells, and examine adaptations in these microcircuits that correspond to changes in memory strength. Experiments will utilize a combination of in vivo optogenetics, fiber photometry, immunohistochemistry, ex vivo optogenetics, slice electrophysiology, and a novel translational model of cocaine relapse.
