Job Description Summary:
The School of Nursing seeks a full-time Improving Dementia CarePost-Doctoral Fellow. The position will join Kristine N. Williams, PhD,RN, FNP-BC, FGSA, FAAN and her investigative team whose expertise inCommunication and Aging and training to reduce elderspeak areinternationally recognized. The Improving Dementia Care PostdoctoralFellow will become an active member of our multidisciplinary andmultisite team working on multiple NIH-funded studies developing andtesting interventions to improve dementia care.
The IDCPDF will be primarily involved in our team\'s pragmatic clinicaltrials testing CHATO, a web-based communication training program fornursing home staff, effects on behavioral and psychological symptoms ofdementia and inappropriate use of psychoactive medication. We anticipatea funding for a new project adapting and testing CHATO in diversenursing home staff and resident populations. The IDCPDF will be involvedas a working member of the investigative team with guided experience andprogressive responsibility for recruitment and coordination ofparticipating nursing homes, procurement and outcome evaluation ofMinimum Data Set and Nursing Home Quality data, and assurance andevaluation of intervention implementation. The IDCPDF will contribute toteam meetings, clinical trial coordinating, data analysis andinterpretation, dissemination of research findings in publications andpresentations and development of research proposals.
Additional opportunities include implementation of a clinical caregivercohort within the University of Kansas Alzheimer\'s Disease ResearchCenter (KU ADRC), one of 33 NIH funded P30 centers. The post-doc will besupported in developing additional skills, will be integrated in teampublications, and will be encouraged to develop a supplemental researchproject. Postdoctoral fellows will also participate in the University ofKansas Medical Center (KUMC) postdoctoral scholar group. The initialcommitment will be for a one-year period with potential extension for asecond year based on outcomes. We are seeking a highly motivatedindividual with a commitment to research to improve care of older adultsacross one or more LTSS settings.
Note: This position is potentially eligible for a remote or hybrid workschedule.
Job Description:
Required Qualifications
Education: PhD or equivalent terminal degree in nursing,gerontology, or related discipline.
Work Experience: Experience to writing and communicating with ascientific audience.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience:
Prior participation on a randomized clinical trial.Experience in clinical care in long term care service and supportsettings.Experience in large data set procurement and analysis.Knowledge of implementation science and/or applied research methods.Experience in clinical trial studies, recruitment, and retention.Clinical and/or research experience with diverse populations ofolder adults.Experience with computer assisted behavioral coding.Work with informal and formal caregivers of persons with dementia.Qualitative and Quantitative research experience.Skills
Strong English skills.Ability to independently plan, multi-task and complete projects.Evidence of initiative in independent, autonomou work.Job Duties
