JOB DUTIES: Your application must provide a detailed description of your relevant work experience in relation to the following duties: This position is responsible for supervising subordinate Police Officers in the Campus Police Department.
The purpose of this position is to provide a safe working and learning environment by protecting life and property, detection of crime, prevention of criminal activity, investigations, community services, and enforcement of all laws, rules and regulations.
This position is accountable for the work product of assigned Police Officer I positions that include assigning tasks or work, monitoring progress and work flow, check employees work, scheduling work and establishing work standards. This position provides input to the supervisor on leave requests and covering shifts. Position documents Police Officer I activities to assist supervisors in the evaluation process and prepares oral and/or written reports for command staff. In the absence of the shift Sergeant, position provides supervision of officers and noncommissioned personnel on duty. Position completes assigned tasks given by Supervisors in a timely manner.
This position collects and secures evidence; lifts latent prints; photographs crime scenes; conducts neighborhood canvases; develops and follows up leads; interviews and interrogates suspects, witnesses and victims; files affidavits for search and arrest warrants; detects and arrests wanted criminals. Position writes complete and accurate reports for criminal prosecution. Appears in county and district courts to offer testimony relative to the investigation of crimes and the charging of individuals with criminal an non-criminal offenses. Position Investigates all complaints against department members. This position completes all of the background investigations for all sworn and non-sworn personnel.
Coordinates Crime Prevention, Community Policing and New Faculty, Staff and Student Orientations, by providing training classes. Establish and continue daily community relations with the public through verbal and written interchange. Schedules personnel for various crime prevention programs, works with personnel to check progress and evaluates effectiveness of the product. Provides lectures and demonstrations on crime prevention and safety.
Provides police service by patrolling the campus, responding to calls for service, investigating crimes, arresting violators, issuing traffic tickets and investigating traffic accidents. Promotes public safety by preventing, detecting and identifying criminal and suspicious activity, issuing summons, making probable cause arrests and incarcerating offenders. Provides police service by patrolling the campus, responding to calls for service. Assists the public with non-criminal emergencies such as medical emergencies, fires, hazardous materials accidents, natural disasters, stranded motorists and missing persons, as well as provide directions and information to the public. Cover shifts for officers that are out on leave or workers comp.
This position also is responsible as the acting Lead Evidence Custodian. Ensures that all evidence taken in is properly marked and all evidence is logged into permanent evidence storage. Researches cases to determine if disposition is reached and coordinate with DA's office to obtain release and properly purge the evidence. Ensures evidence is released to DA's office when requested for prosecution of cases.
Provides on the job training, direction and evaluation for the purpose of producing a well-trained police officer able to work solo assignments in a safe, skillful, productive and professional manner. Documents the trainee's progress through each phase and recommend training continuation. After training, recommends either remedial training or release as a solo officer. Manages the Department's arrest control, firearms, FTO, and research and development programs. Ensures department members are current and adequately trained in these programs as directed by P.O.S.T., NRA, and other certifying organizations.
Serves as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team, and other related committees, providing support for campus-wide emergencies. Provides staff support for the desired directions of shared governance organizations by developing, implementing, and maintaining updated plans, projects, and trainings
Completes procurement paperwork as needed. Ensures that all 'Departmental bills are payed in a timely· manner. Processes citations and file criminal reports with the District Attorney's office and courts. Completes reports and other paperwork as assigned by the Chief or Sergeants.
Instructs Law Enforcement Classes for the Department and other agencies to maintain proficiency in the certified instructional areas. Maintains Instructor certification through the issuing authority through instructing and/or professional development as required to maintain certification. Comply with all P.O.S.T. mandates to instruct classes.

Education and Experience:
Current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification
AND
Two years of law enforcement experience, which included patrolling, apprehending, arresting and enforcing criminal and civil laws. Please submit a copy of your P.O.S.T. Certification with the application.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid Colorado Driver License and no Felony convictions; domestic violence convictions; acquired more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver's license; alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years. You may need to submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check and a Motor Vehicle Driving Record check.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Please provide a detailed description on your application of your relevant work experience and document examples of your work in relation to the following: Strong oral and written communication skills. Administrative training or administrative assignments. Investigative and/or supervisory experience. Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Business Administration, Management or Public Administration ore related field from an accredited college or university. Knowledgeable in the use of a personal computer and applications programs. Experience with evidence collection, control and storage. Experience in community policing and teaching. Experience as a Law Enforcement Field Training Officer (FTO). Experience with background investigations and internal investigations. Experience and ability to work with diverse groups of people. Understand and determine appropriate rules and regulations from various sources. Attention to detail. Interpersonal and customer service skills.

College or University coursework in Criminal Justice or related from an accredited institution may substitute for the Law enforcement experience on a year-for-year basis. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Completion of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) within one year of appointment and completion of Leadership Training within one year of appointment. This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It also requires seizing, holding, controlling, and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive, or physically threatening persons to defend oneself or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary.
