Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemistry or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment. Experience with synthetic organic chemistry and a background in analytical chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of relevant biochemistry and radiochemistry (Carbon-11, Fluorine-18, etc.). Experience with synthesis of complex organic molecules, organic chemistry methodology development, medicinal chemistry research, radiopharmaceutical chemistry research and/or others.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the . The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
The Qu Lab, within the Departments of Psychiatry and Chemistry at Stony Brook University, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to join a dynamic interdisciplinary environment, where there will be opportunities to design and synthesize bioactive organic molecules. These molecules will be labeled with radioisotopes to evaluate their bioactivities and utilized to perform pre-clinical imaging studies. In addition to ongoing projects, which include the development of a novel fluoride-mediated desilylation (FMDS) radiolabeling methodology, the group will develop novel radiopharmaceuticals for investigating and treating various neurological, oncological and cardiovascular diseases. This position requires a recent Ph.D. degree, with a solid synthetic organic chemistry, analytical chemistry background, and excellent communication skills (demonstrated command in both speaking and writing English). Knowledge of relevant biochemistry and radiochemistry is a plus.SBU has two radiochemistry facilities: the at MART and the , both recently built for the PET chemistry program, equipped with state-of-the-art radiochemistry instruments and a cyclotron. The desired personnel will have opportunities to access these facilities and obtain hands-on radiopharmaceutical cGMP production experience.
Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of radiopharmaceutical chemistry.
Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.
Participate/assistant in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
