  JOB SUMMARY

  The Institute of Materials Science is seeking applicants for a full-time Post-Award Grants and Contracts Financial Assistant for the University of Connecticut. The Institute of Materials Science is an interdisciplinary institute with a threefold mission fostering education, research, and outreach in all areas of the materials sciences. The Institutes research environment is fast-paced, with a large and diverse portfolio of sponsored awards.

  Under the supervision of the Institutes Post-Award Grants and Contracts Specialist, the incumbent will perform post-award fiscal and administrative duties related to expenditures for the groups sponsored research awards.

  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  Primary duties will include:

  Process and track payroll and purchasing transactions related to sponsored accounts.Maintain accurate financial records and respond to a variety of inquiries regarding purchasing and payroll transactions.Verify and provide guidance for transactions related to sponsored accounts such as invoices, travel, reimbursements, and requisitions.Correspond about account transactions with administrators from other units.Additional duties will include, as time allows:

  Support monitoring, tracking, and interpreting fiscal records for a portfolio of accounts including payroll records, purchasing, travel, and other disbursements to maintain compliance with grant policies.Monitor compliance with guidelines from awarding agencies and maintain familiarity with terms and conditions associated with grants and awards.Maintain internal records of grant awards and information related to budgets, cost transfers, extensions, advance account requests, increments, and closeouts in accordance with best practices set forth by the Post-Award Grants and Contracts Specialist.Provide statistical information on grant and contract expenditures and compile regular reports utilizing electronic spreadsheets and databases.Review post-award effort reports and facilitate the effort certification process for faculty researchers.Analyze available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present conclusions.Prepare reports and correspondence related to financial issues.Share information with Institute researchers in support of Grants and Contracts team goals.Perform related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  Bachelors degree in a related field and one year of related business or grant administration experience; OR combination of education and experience.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft programs.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  Two to four years of related experience.Experience working in a higher education setting.Ability to interpret and apply costing principles.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to a diverse population.Demonstrated customer service skills.Experience using University of Connecticut systems (KFS, Concur, HuskyBuy, CoreCT, etc.).Experience assisting with the management of grants and sponsored projects.APPOINTMENT TERMS

  This is a full-time permanent position with excellent healthcare and retirement benefits package.Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
