Description
Amazon is looking for a talented, strategic and creative individual to proactively communicate our positions on policy topics and manage media relations and corporate issues, primarily in Australia, on a 14-month fixed term contract. This role will suit an exceptional communicator with experience in building relationships with journalists and other opinion leaders, and an understanding of how communications shapes the policy environment.
Amazon offers employees a competitive remuneration package, including participation in the company stock plan as applicable. We also look after our people with benefits, such as subsidized private health insurance, superannuation and paid parental leave options, amongst others.
Key job responsibilities
Working as part of our APAC Policy Communications and Media Relations team, you will be responsible for rolling out public campaigns that bring to life Amazon’s policy positions, with a focus on positive impacts of Amazon’s businesses for customers and sellers in the highly competitive retail sector. You will also manage inbound media queries on corporate topics and reputational issues, with a primary focus on Australia, but with the flexibility to extend into other APAC geographies from time to time. This includes:
• Developing communications strategies on priority policy issues in alignment with multiple internal stakeholders.
• Translating complex policy topics into compelling speaking points, blog posts, opinion pieces, video scripts, research proposals and other communications assets.
• Building and maintaining excellent relationships with key media outlets, trade associations, academia and civil society groups. This requires proactive outreach to develop these relationships and the use of multiple channels to ensure our voice is heard.
• Effectively representing Amazon as a spokesperson, providing a trusted source for media stakeholders, and providing media training and communications counsel to Amazon leaders.
• Managing PR agency and consultancy resources.
• It may also involve some regional work outside of AU on a case by case basis in collaboration across the wider Policy and Media Relations team.
A day in the life
On a day-to-day basis, you will have the opportunity to innovate, developing creative campaign resources - ranging from speaking points to research reports and high-impact digital assets – to deliver messages that resonate with key audiences. You will also craft thoughtful strategies and impactful content to address evolving issues and incoming media inquiries. This will cut across both Policy Communications and Media Relations.
