The Charter Township of Shelby is accepting applications for the position of Plumbing and/or Mechanical Inspector. Applications with proof of experience, education, registrations, and driver's license will be accepted until 1/25/2024.
Duties include performing inspections and reviewing plans to enforce compliance utilizing applicable construction codes, ordinances, and regulations specific to the discipline or disciplines.
Qualified candidates must provide proof of the following:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent with five (5) years directly related experience OR an associate degree in related field with two (2) years of directly related experience.Must possess a valid driver license and driving record without limitation.State of Michigan registration as an Inspector and Plan Reviewer in the applicable discipline(s) or have the ability and qualifications to obtain provisional registrations within ninety (90) days of employment. Certification as an Inspector and Plan Reviewer from the International Code Council (ICC) in the applicable discipline(s) is preferred. Current employees without ICC certification(s) are required to actively undertake coursework and testing to obtain the certification(s).Salary: $72,130 - $82,745 (single discipline) $73,356 - $84,401 (multiple registrations).

Inspects buildings, structures, equipment and property to enforce compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.Reviews plans and specifications of buildings, structures, equipment, and sites to enforce compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.Informs, assists, and advises architects, engineers, developers, contractors, property owners and the general public with regard to code, ordinance, and regulatory compliance.Investigates and resolves complaints concerning code, ordinance, and regulatory matters.Represents the Building Department before Township Boards and Commissions; State and other public agencies; courts of competent jurisdiction; and other legal authorities with regards to enforcement activities.Prepares and maintains departmental records and reports utilizing departmental computer software.Generates correspondence, violations, court citations, and other related documentation.
