The Minnesota Department of Health is seeking a Planner Principal State to help strategically plan for the implementation of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) prohibitions in the state of Minnesota. This position has state-wide scope and responsibility to support technical and communications activities across agencies to increase awareness and ability of Minnesotans to understand the impacts of the PFAS in Products Prohibitions. This position will work closely with planning and communications staff at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to raise public awareness of Amara’s Law, which will go into effect in January 2025.
Candidates residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota may have the option to telework; however, telework schedules are based on the unit‘s operational needs and are at supervisory discretion. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to travel to the St. Paul office.
Responsibilities include:
Plan, coordinate and direct MDH community outreach and education activities connected with PFAS and products so that communities, partners, and interested parties have information to understand the new PFAS prohibitions and can make informed decisions to reduce exposure to environmental hazards and protect public health.
Provide strategic communications plan for public health campaign and other material development for PFAS prohibitions and other related PFAS communications.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years professional experience performing planning and analysis work.
A bachelor‘s, master‘s, or doctoral degree may substitute for one (1) year, eighteen (18) months, or two (2) years of professional experience, respectively.
Additional Minimum qualifications to be assessed during the interview:
• Writing skills sufficient to compose clear, concise, and understandable narrative summaries that may involve sensitive issues and to develop questionnaires and surveys to collect and compile data.
• Oral communication skills sufficient to present plans and data, lead discussions, and communicate sensitive issues to a variety of audiences.
• Human relations skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective ongoing relationships with the public, interest groups, and department staff.
• Ability to work independently and establish priorities so that essential work is completed in an appropriate and timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience communicating information about PFAS or other product prohibitions.
Experience with a public health communications campaign.
Experience with Microsoft Planner or other project management software.
A valid driver‘s license and ability to travel throughout the state.
Meeting facilitation skills with the ability to communicate effective ideas and competency in risk communication.

This position requires successful completion of references and background check.
This position does not require a valid driver’s license, but it demands travel occasionally, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
