The Public Health Department promotes the health of the entire community through varied programs ranging from control of communicable diseases and coordination of the response to health emergencies to individual case management to primary prevention of disease and wellness promotion. We are currently recruiting for a part-time temporary Physical Therapy Assistant to assist in providing physical therapy treatment for a variety of disabling conditions. This is a para-professional classification working under the supervision of licensed physical or occupational therapists to provide treatment for patients with disabling conditions, injuries, and diseases. Incumbents may apply independent judgment in treatment progression within the scope of a treatment plan established by a licensed physical or occupational therapist.
The ideal candidate will:
Will hold current licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant by the State of California, Board of Medical Quality Assurance, Physical Therapy Examining Committee.
Bring value to a strong, engaged team whose mission is to prevent disease, promote and support optimal health and wellness, and protect the community against disasters.
Be committed to and participate in the department’s ongoing work towards diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to adapt their communication style to meet the needs of both internal and external customers.
Work independently, able to prioritize work and remain flexible when priorities shift.
Be a detail oriented, self-starter who can apply critical thinking skills to daily work and special projects.
Provide excellent customer service utilizing emotional intelligence to assist customers at both ends of the life cycle.
Be software/system intuitive.
Possess strong Microsoft Office suite skills, especially Excel and Word.
A temporary, part-time employee typically works on average 20-24 hours but not more than 29 hours per week, for a maximum of 1000 hours per fiscal year. This position is expected to work an average of 8-16 hours in a week, and never more than 20 hours in a week. Temporary employees earn sick leave but are not eligible for other vacation or holiday pay, and are not eligible for CalPERS, medical, dental, or vision benefits.

Sick Leave:
Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.
Medical Benefits:
Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.
