About Physical Security Device Engineer

  Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides storage, compute, and other solutions to customers globally. Our customers trust and expect us to protect their data with impeccable physical security by continually evolving security practices to mitigate risk. The AWS Design & Engineering Data Center Security Team provides physical security solutions to protect AWS personnel, AWS facilities, and information of our customers. We’re seeking an experienced Physical Security Engineer who will serve as a technical resource on regional coordination of physical security device maintenance at our data centers including site visits and evaluations of device health. You will coordinate with cross-functional peers, system integrators and technical teams from conceptual device repair feasibility through work order planning, device repair prioritization, implementation, testing, and deployment for physical security. You will collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders across multiple time zones, eliminate non-value-add activity, design solutions, and find creative ways to accelerate device health.

The ideal candidate for the role will be willing and able to work across multiple disciplines, at all levels; from physical security device system design and layout. You will have an in-depth knowledge of security technology, be innovative, highly organized, and know how to deliver results on time and on budget. The role may involve travel and your ability to work autonomously is essential. You must understand and effectively apply program-management and project-management best practices. You may be asked to use your knowledge to assess processes, program plans, and operations requirements. The team you will join is a multi-functional team, and you will have a unique opportunity to develop highly-portable skills and insights into physical, technical, and cyber security practices and procedures. That is why, no matter the discipline, you will be expected to develop and maintain general data center security knowledge and skills (through OJT if necessary), so that you can fully participate in cross-functional collaboration and sharing with partners and colleagues. This is a crucial requirement for this role, which may at times require you to work and act independently on behalf of the entire team when others are unavailable or separated by time or distance.

  Key job responsibilities

Serve as a liaison with AWS datacenter regional physical security teams, third party system integrators, our datacenter operational partners, and key AWS Security organizations on matters associated with the physical security device health

Implement and fully document improvements and modifications related to new technologies

May be asked to be a people manager of other engineers

Assist with developing, building and deploying projects on a global scale

Provide support to manage security device health with project management skills simplifying obstacle discovery and removal

Be able to communicate in written form and verbally to leadership on the status of outcomes for projects

Identify and convey trends, seek diverse opinions and coordinate improvement efforts in collaboration with internal stakeholders

Contribute to driving faster innovation and enhanced responsiveness on behalf of customers

Ability to travel 25% to support device health and program implementation globally

  A day in the life

You will serve as a liaison with AWS data center regional physical security teams, our data center operational partners, and key AWS Security organizations on all matters associated with physical security device health. Review device service reports and prioritize work to resolve devices being down. Coordinate efforts for device triage to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software. Balance performance metrics such as physical security vendor service delivery performance, actual spend vs. budget variance, cost reduction goal attainment, installation defect rates and physical security program analysis.
