Summary: The Float Pharmacy Technician/Medical Assistant splits timebetween the roles of pharmacy technician and medical assistant based onorganizational needs, provides technical assistance to the pharmacist inall ways that are legally allowed, supports the medical providers andensures that all patients receive quality care, and provides prompt,exceptional customer service, while maintaining compliance with allfederal grants, HIPAA, and Hunter Health Clinic policies and procedures.They will perform the functions of these roles while maintaining HunterHealths mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy.
Job Responsibilities:
Performs all point-of-sale functions, including cash registeroperations.
Provides prompt, exceptional customer service that aligns theorganizations mission.
Utilizes, updates, and maintains data in pharmacy computer system andelectronic health record, as applicable.
Maintains pharmacy files and records.
Maintains pharmacy inventory, creates pharmacy orders and returns fromspecified sources, receives and stocks inventory.
Processes third party transactions and handles third party payorrejections.
Collaborates with on-site medical and support staff to ensure timelyresolution of refill requests and prescription issues.
Processes prescriptions and maintains related systems under direction ofpharmacist.
Communicates effectively with customers and pharmacy and clinic staff.
Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
Makes every effort to assist patients with their concerns and usesproblem-solving skills to creatively resolve issues.
Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures and State andFederal laws, including those pertaining to 340B.
Assists the Lead Technician in implementing and monitoring action plansto ensure results, quality and compliance.
Assisting Physicians, Mid-Levels, RNs, and LPNs with patient care.
Visit prep for the scheduled patient 1-2 days in advance, identifyingany needs, setbacks, or orders.
Lead daily care team huddle using completed visit prep.
Act as shepherd of the care team, maintaining effective workflowthroughout the day with outlined initiatives.
Use data tracking boards to identify setbacks and opportunities forimprovement at the end of each session.
Rooming patients in exam rooms and room set up for exams prior tomedical providers arrival.
Capturing temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, andweight and record values in EHR.
Adhering to rights of medication administration: right patient, rightmedication, right dose, right route, and right time.
Withdrawing medication from vial and an ampule and properlyadministering oral medication; liquid or pill form.
Citing vaccinations, administration sites, and recommended ages for thevaccines.
Collecting Patient History and documenting in EHR prior to patient beingseen by medical provider.
Stocking room, biohazard disposal, sharps containers and updatinginfection control log.
Assisting RN/LPN with telephone encounters documented daily in EHR.
Documenting of patient encounters, phone calls, drug administration, andchart review in EHR.
Assisting RN/LPN with prescription refill requests daily.
All prescription refill requests must be reviewed and approved by themedical provider and/or nurse and faxed same-day refill requestreceived.
Accurately completing all forms such as Gynecological (Pap Smears/STD)work-up, EDW forms and pharmacy forms.
Assisting in inventory and keeping storage supply closet neat and freeof debris.
Communicates and collaborates professionally and effectively withmedical providers, medical support staff, fron desk staff, patientservice representatives, patient care coordinators and administration.
Responsible for by-laws strict confidentiality of Medical Records.
Attend designated meetings as an employee and medical staff member.
Complete all assigned monthly trainings.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent, required
Current, good standing, unrestricted, pharmacy technician licensure inKansas, required
Current PTCB or ExCPT certification or obtained before first statelicense renewal as required by KS Board of Pharmacy, required
CPR certification, required
Immunization Certificate, preferred
One year or more of retail pharmacy experience, preferred
340B pharmacy experience, training, or education, preferred
Knowledge of ambulatory care or community health care center operations,preferred
Working knowledge of Electronic Health Records software and pharmacydispensing software, preferred
Must not be excluded from participation in any governmental programs,such as Medicare and Medicaid, required.
Prefer 1 to three years experience in Medical Clinic setting.
Certified or Registered Medical Technician, Medical Assistant and/orCertified Nurse Assistant preferred.
Prior experience with Electronic Medical Records software preferred.
