JOB REQUIREMENTS: Duties The CSP pharmacy technician will performsterile compounding functions to ensure timely and accurate patient careis provided. In addition, will comply with all regulatory requirementsassociated with sterile compounding. Knowledgeable in United StatesPharmacopeia (USP) 797/800/795, Pharmacy Law, VHA Directives, and DrugEnforcement Agency (DEA) regulations as they relate to practice withinthe VA Healthcare System and its organizational elements. Using aseptictechnique, compounds both complicated and uncomplicated parenteraladmixtures in the form of large volume, small volume, infusion syringeor another modality as required. Prepares sterile ophthalmicpreparations and other complex sterile pharmaceuticals such as totalparenteral nutrition and cardioplegia solutions. Correctly interpretsorders, selects, and measures appropriate ingredients, mixes ingredientsin an aseptic and effective manner, inspects the final product foraccuracy, suitability, and elegance, labels the product, maintainsrecords of the manufacturing process, and supplies the product fordelivery. Understands specific handling considerations for storage,distribution, and disposal of medications. Consistently displayscompetence with good aseptic technique manufacturing practices throughdemonstration and/or actual work performance. Technical workingknowledge of equipment and supplies used in compounding sterile productsincluding but not limited to admixing pumps, needles, syringes, andvarious compounding supplies, etc. Operates and maintains complicatedpharmacy equipment including but not limited to Omnicell/Pyxis, laminarflow hoods, total parental nutrition (TPN) compounder, repeater pumps,etc.) Ensures that the IV cleanrooms are cleaned daily, and appropriatelogs are completed for daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning. Usesknowledge, skills, and abilities to resolve questionable orders orsituations to ensure quality of care. Contacts pharmacists to obtainclarification for prescriptions/orders or any situation that presents apossible hazard to patient care. Performing accurate product selection,dosage calculations and compounding of agents utilizing packageliterature, written procedural guidelines and application of specializedknowledge.
