Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, the pharmacist supervisor is responsible for themanagement and supervision of the daily activities of the staff for activitiesand processes designed to provide efficient medication distribution,customer service, and appropriate clinical services. Supervisory activitiesinclude the review and prioritization of daily workload, serving as theprimary resource for staff on clinical and administrative issues, andcoordination of pharmacy functions with other departments/sections to ensureoptimal patient care and interdepartmental communication. Ensures appropriatetraining, education, and competency of pharmacy staff. Recruits,hires, supervises, and evaluates pharmacy staff. Ensures compliance withall Federal and State regulations, and departmental policies. Develops andimplements sustainable policies and procedures, provides oversight ofpayroll and scheduling, and provides staffing support as necessary.
Essential Functions:
Coordinates and works with other hospital colleagues (e.g. physician,nursing, ancillary staff, etc.) to assist in defining policies andprocedures governing daily pharmacy practice in coordination with themanagement/leadership team(s) and in compliance with all applicableregulatory standards, and state and federal laws. Attends or participates inother programs, committees, inservice meetings and functions required bythe pharmacy department. Delivers positive customer service and follow up oncustomer and employee issues/complaints. (40%)Develops and implements work schedules and assignments to ensure appropriatestaffing. As needed, finds coverage during periods of high volume, staffshortages and emergencies. Assures that approved work schedule is posted in atimely manner. Monitors daily staff attendance to assure compliance withorganizational and departmental policy. As necessary due to employeeabsence, redirects work schedule assignments to assure that criticalpositions are staffed. Assists with the completion of the hiring anddisciplinary paperwork with documentation. (20%)Actively identifies problems and opportunities for improvement; identifiesappropriate solution and involves others in the implementation process.Recognizes positive behavior and contributions to the organization usingpraise, appreciation, and rewards. Identifies training and staffdevelopment needs of employees and ensures appropriate training provided andcompetency is maintained. Initiates formal/informal activities withemployees to develop departmental cohesion and collegiality. (20%)Ensures all legal and professional pharmacy requirements are adhered to andappropriate documentation is maintained. Interprets, verifies, andclarifies orders for all types of medications as needed. Oversees preparationof compounded medications and ensures all record keeping requirements aremaintained per board of pharmacy rules and regulations. (20%)Education:
Doctorate Degree BPharm or PharmD, with PharmD preferred RequiredWork Experience:
1-3 years pharmacy experience, Required and4-6 years pharmacy experience preferred andprevious managerial or leadership experience preferred andApplicable PGY2 Residency will count towards managerial experience.Licenses:
