Title: Payroll Accountant
Reporting to: VP, Controller
Location/Travel: This is a hybrid role based out of our Bethesda, MD office. The ideal candidate will live in the Washington DC metro area and commute to the office 3 days each week. We have a modern office environment conducive to team building and collaboration located in downtown Bethesda, close to restaurants, gyms and the Metro. We meet in the office 3 days each week in order to collaborate and participate in training, coaching and team projects.
Opportunity: Our Finance team is seeking a Payroll Accountant. The Payroll Accountant will oversee and supervise the payroll functions of the organization, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. You’ll prepare payroll schedules and records, and you’ll contribute to various accounting tasks and reconciliations. To succeed in this role, you must have strong mathematical skills, attention to detail and knowledge of national and regional laws on payroll and taxes.
Responsibilities:
Administer semi-monthly payroll and ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, commissions, benefits, garnishments, taxes and other deductions.
Work with our People Team to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations and changes to compensation.
Set up withholding tax accounts and state unemployment insurance (SUI) numbers as required.
Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial and local payroll requirements and prepare payroll tax forms as required.
Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll-related accounts, including but not limited to tax liability accounts, benefits reconciliations and allocations.
Assist with annual 401k compliance testing, annual workers compensation and any other payroll-related audits.
Work with AP and payroll to ensure ADP invoices and other payroll related expenses are processed in a timely manner.
Conducting monthly, quarterly and yearly reconciliation and reporting, 941s, W-2 forms and ACA reporting etc.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns.
Review, prioritize and determine actions for all incoming correspondence related to payroll taxes, garnishments, etc.
Review, process, and post employee reimbursable expenses.
Provide requested information and documents during the annual financial statement audit.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements:
Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance preferred, or a HS Diploma with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience working as a member of an accounting/finance team.
ADP Workforce Now, or other comparable payroll HR application. Concur experience preferred.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) from the American Payroll Association a plus.
A minimum of 2+ years of relevant full-cycle payroll experience working in a mid-sized corporate environment.
NetSuite, Workday, Peoplesoft, SAP, Oracle or other financial ERP system experience.
Proficient MS Excel user who is comfortable working with Pivot Tables and various other advanced Excel formulas.
Able to meet deadlines while producing high quality, error-free work.
Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established procedures and standards in an efficient manner and with minimal supervision.
Demonstrates initiative/self-motivation, eagerness to learn and ability to recognize areas for improvement and demonstrate an analytical way of thinking.
Flexible and willing to adjust to the needs and priorities of a growing business.

The estimated pay scale for this position is between $80,000 and $90,000 in base salary, plus annual bonus potential of 5%. Base salary is dependent upon many factors including, but not limited to, education, experience, and skills and this range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
