Overview
The Patient Services Specialist II performs routine front-end clinical operations activities, which include, but are not limited to: scheduling, registration, cashiering, gathering and providing appropriate information, collecting co-pays, and performing a wide variety of front office duties in a courteous and customer service-oriented manner.
Responsibilities
Respond to patients, families, and clinic issues in a timely and professional manner, provide routine financial counseling, and seek assistance from the supervisor when obtaining answers to resolve patient issues.
Collect co-pays, provide receipts, and provide timely accounting for all collected cash and payments. Identify discrepancies and immediately collaborate with the supervisor to resolve issues.
Responsible for the reception, greeting, and overall patient flow and coordination of services at various Care Centers.
Provide information to callers, as well as direct callers to the correct destination.
Maintain contact and correspondence with patients and families to keep them informed of pending appointments at Johns Hopkins Hospital and/or Kennedy Krieger Institute.
Collect, track, and process quality improvement and patient tracking data as needed.
Under general supervision, perform advanced clerical or administrative tasks. Using varying methods, process transactions and select or devise the steps necessary to complete all assignments.
Maintain a general and updated understanding of insurance requirements as they relate to the Care Center.
Retrieve and assess system information related to insurance authorization for patient services from the Care Management Operations department.
Maintains and tracks patient transportation to and from the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
Completes reminder calls for upcoming appointments.
Functions as a member of the Child and Family Support Program Care Center team through positive participation in all aspects of the position.
Takes the initiative to learn new information, to collaborate with others, and to work towards solutions. Provides technical assistance, training, and support to other team members as needed.
Assists supervisor with training new Patient Services Specialists.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
1 - 3 years of experience in patient registration, scheduling, and/or coordinating patient services required.
