  POSITION SUMMARY

  The Patient Service Assistant (PSA) performs functions related to supporting patients/clients with insurance related inquires, sliding fee scale applications, and payment collections. A PSA will work closely with the Health Centers to address outstanding balances, insurance ineligibility, and provider credentialing error at the front desk. PSAs will be cross trained to assist with coverage at the front desk where they will be trained to check-in patients/clients, schedule appointments, manage incoming calls, and backfill appointments as needed.

  Hourly Rate: $19.33 an hour

  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  High School diploma plus 2 years of progressively responsible related experience or an Associate’s Degree plus 1 years of progressively responsible related experience is required. Experience in a health care setting including face to face interaction with clients/patients is preferred. A valid driver’s license and access to timely and reliable transportation are required.

  Experience with Microsoft Office products, other software programs, and office equipment such as fax, copiers, and scanners is preferable.

  Full time- 9am-5pm Monday- Friday

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  Provide administrative support to the health centers Support Services department.

  Works independently, but closely with the Support Services Supervisor/Manager and Senior Director of Health Center Operations to address outstanding self-pay balances.

  Assist patients/clients with outstanding balances by overseeing sliding fee scale applications, payment plans, prompt pay discounts and ensuring all sliding fee scales applications are accurate and up to date.

  Verify each patient’s/client’s insurance coverage via Phreesia eligibility swipes and/or verification calls to the insurance company.

  Audit new patient charts. Reviewing for completion and accuracy for all insurance, demographic, required forms, and UDS fields.

  Identify potential billing issues and act to resolve problems quickly and collaboratively with the Billing Department.

  Processes, and sorts incoming faxes and mail.

  Produces and delivers timely, accurate and professional documents as needed to patients/clients, collateral contacts, and primary care physicians.

  Maintains all error and Q&A reports up to date.

  Maintains all scanning/indexing up to date.

  Pursues and utilizes available insurance trainings and staff development opportunities to develop job related skills, and enhance knowledge and growth within the agency.

  Maintains competencies to meet expectations in all position-specific key performance indicators.

  Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
