Schedule Weekly Hours:0 Job Description: The Pathologists\'Assistant performs gross description and dissection of anatomicpathology specimens, including selection and submission of sections forhistological, microbiological, immunological and other specializedtesting. Major Responsibilities: 1. Performs complete dissection at thegross level for all types of surgical pathology specimens, with accurateand appropriate description of findings dictated for surgical pathologyreport. 2. Recognizes pathology at the gross level and appropriately,selects and submits tissue specimens for routine microscopic exam in atimely, accurate and efficient manner. 3. Selects and submitsappropriate tissue specimens for other special procedures, includingfrozen section examination, touch preparations, immunohistochemistry,flow cytometry, electron microscopy, cytogenetics and microbiology. 4.Photographs gross pathology specimens, both as directed by thepathologist or other physician, and also in self-directed manner.Recognizes the medicolegal and educational value of photographingcertain specimens. 5. Photographs microscopic sections as directed bythe pathologist or another physician. 6. Utilizes multiple informationsystems to obtain and summarize patients\' pathology records, cytologyreports, laboratory test results, radiology reports and clinicalhistories. 7. Collects, reviews and summarizes data for departmentalquality assurance efforts, including but not limited to the followingtopics: completeness of surgical pathology and autopsy reports; accuracyof SNOMED and CPT coding; correlation of frozen section with permanentsection diagnoses; and correlation of outside diagnoses with inhousediagnoses. 8. Maintains, with timely revisions, the anatomic pathologicquality assurance and procedure manuals. 9. Serves as an educator;teaches residents and students rotating through pathology, presentsautopsies at the monthly clinical pathology conference and allowing jobshadowing as time permits. 10. Performs other job-relatedresponsibilities as requested.
