Parking Services Specialist

Position Summary:
Performs all phases of work related to parking violations, vehicle registration and field event operations including duties that may be needed to support other police functions.
Required Qualifications:
Education equivalent to the completion of high school.
Possession of valid Driver's License.
Two years of customer service experience.
Experience interpreting and enforcing policies, rules and regulations, preferably in a police or parking enforcement setting.
Computer data entry experience.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Ability to type accurately.
Ability to maintain and keep records and prepare reports from such records.
Ability to successfully complete training to become a certified LEIN computer system operator.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image.
Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree or equivalent.
Experience and/or interest in emergency dispatch.
Knowledge of billing procedures.
Experience in a police department.
Knowledge of ticket validation and related computer systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Collects money for parking violations and vehicle registration fees.
Processes appeal forms.
Explains parking rules and regulations to the public.
Verifies registered owners with State of Michigan for license plate numbers with unknown owners in Parking Services database.
Issues annual parking decals and temporary parking permits for motor vehicles for students, faculty, staff and guests.
Enters and retrieves information from various software programs regarding parking permits, citations and accounts.
Utilizes communication tools and social media to disseminate necessary permit mailing, evacuation and move in/out notices to registered vehicles.
Coordinates student employees PEO's (Parking Enforcement Officers) working hours.
Event parking management
Supports police/dispatch customer service functions
Performs updates and operational functions to handheld ticket writers when needed.
Web Development recommendations.
Performs database and software updates and edits vehicle registration disclaimers and time lines as needed with assistance from vendor and/or OIT.
Performs other duties as assigned.
