Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The Summer Hire program is from May thru August 2024, will need to be available to start by May 24, 2024. Management may fill multiple vacancies at each location. Applicants applying for Yankton, SD will have their duty station set as St. Helena, NE. Responsibilities Patrol project lands, guard against unsafe and unsanitary conditions, trespassing, fire hazards, vandalism, thefts, control traffic, and enforce rules and regulations. Hand out maps, pamphlets, and copies of rules and regulations Answer questions about fishing, hunting, and campsite locations. Develop and present campfire programs, dam tours, nature walks, amphitheater programs, and other outdoor activities for the visiting public. Keep historical records, files and items, and maintains ranger library Conduct a program to identify and control the overuse and abuse of project lands and facilities. Identify erosion problems and plan and implement soil protection projects. Improve fisheries through active involvement in various habitat projects. Utilize management tools to store, compile, and transmit data related to recreation and resources management. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is an open-continuous announcement. Referral lists may be requested to fill vacant positions throughout the life of the announcement. OR Education: High school graduation (or equivalent). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 6. Then divide your total credit hours of education by the total number of credit hours required for graduation as set by your high school. Add the two percentages.
