Pay Range: $18.72 - $20.97 (min - 12% above min)/hr based onqualifications and experience*
Hours/day: 3.25 hours
Work calendar days: 186 days (SPED Paras)
Duration of position: Remainder of school year

SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting the General Classroom or Special Education Teacherby providing instructional and physical support for students with significantsupport needs so that they may fully participate in class activities. Assiststudents with personal care, social skills and/or self-awareness. Assistteacher with classroom materials and clerical skills and monitor students.

Description of Job Tasks
Assist the General Classroom or Special Education Teacher with implementinginstruction and reinforcing learning skills in individual or small groups,adapting curriculum to individual student needs, monitoring and enforcingacceptable social and physical behavior, implementing daily and long rangelessons and activities to meet Individual Education Plans (IEP),behavior plans, and/or health care plans. Assist with implementingspecialized occupational therapy and physical therapy programs and activities.
Assist students with personal care, social skills and/or self-awarenessand in getting to and from bus stops, restrooms, lunchrooms, etc. Assiststudents with personal health and hygiene, including spoon feeding, tubefeeding, toileting, catherization, and diapering. Lift, transfer, orpush students in wheelchairs. Use alternative language techniques such as signlanguage or voice activated computer systems and adapt classroom materials foruse by a student with a hearing or vision disability as needed.
Assist teacher in preparing materials, administering tests, grading,taking attendance, completing paperwork, maintaining files, evaluatingand recording student achievement and maintaining student records.
Monitor students in classroom and during breaks, lunch, recess, timeouts, on field trips, getting on and off the bus, etc. Reinforceschool-wide discipline procedures.
Assist Teacher and/or administration with special projects.
Attend work and arrive in a timely manner.
Attend appropriate in-services, building meetings, training, IEPmeetings, parent conferences and/or school functions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES:
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of related experience
Experience working with special needs students preferred
Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
Criminal background check required for hire
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) required within 3 months of hire
Special Education Paraprofessional Academy classes (5 in first 2 yearsof hire)
