The successful candidate will receive a 2% increase to their base hourly pay rate once the state of Alaska qualification for paraprofessionals has been met and approved by ASD Talent Management.
Special Education Paraprofessional Educators for Special Programs receive an extra $2.00 differential, and for Behavior Support receive an extra $4.00 differential, on each hour worked, not to exceed 8 hours per day.

As a Paraprofessional Educator at ASD, you will assist teachers with duties related to classroom activities and student supervision, including clerical tasks and student monitoring. You will provide instruction and assistance to students in the classroom and other school settings.
Job Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent.Must meet paraprofessional requirements for the state of Alaska throughoneof the following methods: 48 college semester credits from a regionally accredited institution, OR a passing score of 459 or greater on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment exam, OR passing the WorkKeys by ACT assessment, OR passing the ASD provided Master Teacher paraprofessional training.Excellent communication and customer service skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation of staff, parents, students, administrators and the public.Ability to establish and maintain a professional relationship with staff, parents, students, administrators and the public.For the Alaska State School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing:Must meet the standard of an Intermediate+ rating on the Sign Communication Proficiency interview within three years of employment.Essential Job Functions
Kindergarten and Elementary classrooms:
Prepares class materials at direction of the teacher.Sets up class projects using guidelines established by the teacher.Handles routine reports needed to complete informational requirements.Records grades as assigned by the teacher.Checks attendance for assigned classes and assists with discipline for students as required.Aids pupils to carry out routine practice exercises assigned by the teacher, including listening to pupils read.Assists with assembling and putting materials on display.Assists with supervision of pupils on the school grounds.Assists with supervising a student, or group of students, during the lunch and recess periods, indoors and outdoors.Checks objective tests and marks errors, but does not determine final grades.Types letters, requisitions, inventories, cards, bulletins, bills, reports, ledgers, stencils, transcripts, tests, notices, and other administrative teacher and student materials.Maintains student and teacher files.Supports the Anchorage School Districts position of valuing diversity, promoting respect, and maintaining standards of confidentiality.Special Education Resource classrooms:
Provides instructional services in reading, math, writing, etc. to students individually or in small groups under the supervision of a special education teacher.Prepares or modifies instructional materials for students as specified by special education teacher.Collects data in accordance with student IEP goals and objectives as directed by certified special education staff.Collaborates and works cooperatively with colleagues and staff.Follows written and oral instructions, and independently follows through on teacher directed programming/strategies.Implements and provides special education services and supports for students as detailed in the IEP. Duties will include providing instructional services, accommodations and modifications, behavioral and social interventions, individual behavior improvement plans, personal hygiene assistance and assisting to and from buses.The majority of the workday is spent in special education or regular education classroom environments. However, student support may be required in other school settings as per individual student need. This may include providing assistance/monitoring during lunch periods, breaks and recesses as specified in the IEP.Supports ASDs position of valuing diversity, promoting respect and maintaining standards of confidentiality.For Life Skills and Structured Learning classrooms:Provides primary support in special education or general education classroom environments. Provides additional student support in other school settings such as restrooms, corridors, lunch rooms, gyms, conference rooms, or playgrounds. This also includes assistance/monitoring during lunch periods, breaks and recesses, and assisting students to and from buses as specified in the IEP.For preschool self-contained classrooms:Provides primary support in special education preschool classrooms. Provides additional student support in other school settings such as restrooms, corridors, lunch room, gym, and playground. Will be required to attend students during outside recess on playground and to and from the bus.For CARE teams:Provides primary support in various private preschool and childcare settings and Head Start settings within the community. Job will require a valid drivers license and the ability to use own car for daily travel.Special Education Special Programs:
Provides special education services and supports for students individually or in small groups under the supervision of a special education teacher.
Prepares or modifies instructional materials including assistive technology devices for students use.
Collects data in accordance with student(s) IEP goals and objectives as directed by certified special education staff.
Collaborates and works cooperatively with colleagues and staff.
Follows written and oral instructions and independently follows through on teacher directed programming/strategies.
Provides special education services and supports for students as detailed in the IEP. Attends to and provides for students daily hygiene, personal, and health related care including dressing, feeding, toileting/diapering, etc. as directed by certified special education staff.
Provides detailed, explicit information on student functioning and progress that will assist teachers or related service personnel to develop appropriate learning and behavioral supports.
Assists in positioning/range of motion tasks for students such as lifting, repositioning, and transferring between apparatus.
