  Job Summary and Qualifications

  The ER Paramedic will collect and convey information to both their team members and the attending Physician regarding the health status of patients. The Hospital Paramedic will perform all duties identified in their job description and validated by competency assessment under the License of the Physician Medical Director. They will report to the Director of Emergency Services. They will serve as a member of the Healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested. The Hospital Paramedic will provide for patient safety. Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy. Contributes to the growth and development of self and department. Maintains an active involvement. Maintains good working relationship with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff. Maintains competence with charting system. They may not, under any circumstances, perform the prohibited functions listed below. Essential Functions:  Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQU) initiatives  Maintains competence in documentation  Answer and receive patient report from EMS on radio ( not allowed to give or take orders over radio)  Receive EMS hand off reports at facility  Utilize SBAR ( Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) for communication  Support and represent the facility’s Core Values while performing the role  Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy  Clean stretchers, closets, and cabinets as appropriate Technical Functions: May perform the functions defined within the North Florida Division approved skills list or the corresponding facility approved skills list.  12 Lead EKG  Input and Output documentation  Document in medical record  EHR documentation of care Document in eMar and BCMA  Administer approved medications  Stock  Check Equipment  Participate in quality improvement projects  Insert IV’s/IO’s  Discontinue IV’s  Obtain Clean catch urine samples  Clean stretchers and rooms  Perform CPR/ACLS  Transport patients  Splint application  Wound Cleaning  Apply traction  Application of Oxygen per order  Accucheck  Answer EMS radio and work with Charge Nurse or Flow Coordinator to place patient  Oral and endotracheal suctioning  Suture set up and assistance  Chest tube/pleur-e-vac set up  Remove sutures and staples  Administration of Fleets enema  Central Line tray set up  Insert oral/nasal airways  Lumbar Puncture set up and assist  Thoracentesis set up and assist Prohibited Functions:  Tracheal Intubations  Intravenous Injections/Infusions  Document Assessments  Discharge Patients Medication Administration List: May administer medications from the approved medication found in the most recent North Florida Division approved addendum. If the ER Paramedic is not permitted by the addendum to administer a specific medication, or to administer a specific medication by a certain route, the ER Paramedic may not carry out the Emergency Physician’s order and such order must be carried out by other staff authorized to perform the service at issue. In the state of Florida, according to Fla. Stat. Ann. § 458.3485., Paramedics are not authorized to administer intravenous injections in the hospital. For those drugs listed that have multiple forms, intravenous injection form is not permissible.

  *High School School/GED required. *Current certification/licensure as a Paramedic per State of Florida requirements. *Current BLS certification *Current ACLS certification *Current PALS certification *Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCRISIS/CPI) (within 6 months of hire/transfer) *ITLS (Ocala Regional ONLY within 6 months of hire/transfer). *Less than 1 year of paramedic experience required. Preferred Education Preferred License/Certification Preferred Experience: *2 year Associate Degree preferred. *N/A *Minimum 2 years of experience as a field paramedic with EMS agency and/or clinical experience working in a Hospital
