Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated experience in large and/or smallanimal handling and restraint AND one year of knowledge and experienceor training in a large and/or small animal facility. Demonstratedknowledge of: drugs and medications typically used in veterinary care;patient preparation, medical procedure assistance; medical terminology;animal anatomy; veterinary care procedures; basic mathematics (add,subtract, multiply, divide); and animal restraint technique and devices.Finalists for this position will be required to complete a backgroundhistory questionnaire. Position Duties VeterinaryAssistants may be assigned to any of the areas below with varyingpercentages depending on the needs of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.40% HOSPITAL ASSISTANCE: Receives animal patients, processes intakepaperwork, records patient information, inputs hospital charges inbilling system, and verifies condition of cages. 30%MAINTENANCE/CLEANING/INVENTORY Cleans, assesses work-ability, performsminor routine maintenance of equipment, and ensures that medical andpatient food supplies are stocked. 25% MEDICAL PROCEDURE ASSISTANCE:Assists in drawing blood, assists with tabling and restraining animals;assists with monitoring animal recovery, assists with diagnosticprocedures and treatments. 5% STUDENT INSTRUCTION: Assists indemonstrating patient restraint and handling, proper use of equipmentand supplies under direct supervision of veterinary technicians orveterinarians.
