JobDescription & Duties: Outdoor Programs Instructors are trained tofacilitate a variety of outdoor activities including environmentaleducation, orienteering, canoeing, kayaking, and high and low challengecourses. Instructors facilitate outdoor programming activities, helpdevelop and design programs, and maintain safe operating procedures forall activities. Instructors are trained to facilitate in all programareas but may choose to work in or prioritize a specific area. Programstake place in a variety of locations in Madison and the surroundingarea. Training is through end of March, Programs run Apr-Nov with somewinter opportunities in the off season of Dec-Mar ***** OTHEREXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications: Willingness towork outdoors for up to 8 hours. Comfortable facilitating/leading smallgroups of youth and/or adults in the outdoors. Ability to assess groupsgoals to select appropriate activities. Certified or able to obtaincertification in CPR/AED. Function as a team member workingcollaboratively to support program operations. Willingness to travel toprogram site locations. Enthusiasm for facilitating and learning in theoutdoors. Commitment to the mission and vision of MSCR and the goals ofMSCR Outdoor Programs. Required trainings include: Outdoor ProgramsSeason Kick-off Meeting 3/18/24 (9am-12pm), Facilitation Principles on3/14 (1pm-4pm). Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of regionalflora/fauna including forest, prairie, oak savanna and wetlandecosystems. Previous experience teaching environmental educationconcepts. Logged Challenge Course facilitator hours that attest totechnical and facilitation skill and/or Association for Challenge CourseTechnology (ACCT) FI-FII certifications. Logged hours to attest topaddling facilitation skills and/or American Canoe Association (ACA)Canoe and/or Kayak Level 1 certifications . Secondary language skills inSpanish and/or Hmong highly desired.
